Project Benefits

The Illinois Solar Portfolio is comprised of 35 projects across 25 counties in Illinois. The projects deliver clean, low-cost energy, and environmental benefits to the surrounding communities. The Illinois Solar Portfolio provides the following benefits:

Serving Educational Communities

The Illinois Solar Portfolio is a distributed generation solar portfolio operating in various counties throughout Illinois. Each project is carefully sited to serve local communities through Ameren and Commonwealth Edison Company (ComEd). Primergy operates the portfolio and utilized local builders and project managers to develop and construct the project. The portfolio generates zero-carbon electricity at schools and community resource centers, including grade schools, nursing homes, and college campuses across the state of Illinois.

Supporting the Local Economy

The Illinois Solar Portfolio was constructed from 2019 to 2021. During peak construction periods, the projects generated approximately 100 jobs, supported through local contractors and regional trade groups, as well as opportunities for professional development, including local recruitment, engineering teaching programs, and on-the-job training.

Tax Revenue for the Host Counties

Primergy’s Illinois Solar Portfolio remits approximately $40,000 in taxes annually. These payments benefit local schools and provide the communities where the projects are located with substantial resources that may be directed toward public safety, road upgrades, and infrastructure improvements.
